Inspire

Our tutors here at Borders School of Music are musicians working in the music industry. We hope that their experience will serve to inspire our students on their learning journey. 

Motivate

Our lessons are designed in a way to keep you engaged. We pride ourselves in being able to tailor your learning experience; going at your pace and playing or singing pieces of music that are favourites of yours, all of which will keep you motivated to continue learning.

Learn

We offer lessons for all ages from pre-school all the way through to retirement age. We are a registered exam centre with Trinity College London and follow their syllabus. We have access to all of Trinity’s library of material in their Rock&Pop series. Graded exams are available for students who want to focus their studies and test their abilities.

Matt Bramhall

Piano

Matt Bramhall

As well as being the piano tutor at the school, Matt works as a session musician and musical director on the UK music scene.

Artists he has worked with include Rita Ora, Sheridan Smith, JP Cooper, Alesha Dixon. He is currently the musical director for country artist Megan McKenna and also plays keyboards with Ministry of Sound Classical performing with the London Concert Orchestra.

Charlotte James

Vocals

Charlotte James

Charlotte has recently moved to the Borders from London where she worked for Sony Music. She is also a professional vocalist, her most recent work was singing background vocals for Josh Groban in Hyde Park, London.

Lewis Heatlie

Guitar, Ukulele

Lewis Heatlie

Lewis takes his influences in music from rock and blues. He works as a session musician in Scotland.

Aaron Wilson

Guitar, Ukulele

Aaron Wilson

Aaron is a lead guitarist, guitar tutor and session musician based in Edinburgh, who has graduated with a first-class honours in his BA (Hons) Music and Sound course at the Academy of Music and Sound.

Kenny Lyons

Drums

Kenny Lyons

A student of some of the greatest to emerge from Scotland’s scene such as Alyn Cosker, Tommy Smith and Paul Harrison to name a few at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Described by the London Jazz news as “not a beat out of place” as part of the European Jazz Big Band workshop.

AmyBeth Beel

Vocals and Piano

AmyBeth Beel

AmyBeth started her professional career as one of the principal singers for Scottish Ballet, singing for the world premiere of ‘The Snowman’ and touring the UK with the production for 2 years.
She trained and won major scholarships for both classical and opera singing at both The Iain Tomlin school of Music and University of Aberdeen.

Pawel Jaworski

Piano & Clarinet

Pawel Jaworski

Pawel graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he achieved a Bachelor of Music degree with Honours (2017) and Master of Music Performance degree (2019). He was awarded an RCS Trust Postgraduate Scholarship to commence his Master of Music degree. He also won a Help Musicians UK Postgraduate Award.

Laura Macleod

Violin

Laura Macleod

Laura studied violin performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and graduated with a BMus Honours Degree in 2021. She is an experienced violin tutor and regularly performs at concerts and events.

Music for everyone

We don’t just teach younger learners, we also offer lessons to adults. We offer lessons for adult beginners and also adults who may have started learning piano when they were younger and are looking to refresh their playing.

Advance your musicianship

Our staff here at Borders School of Music are experienced musicians and will offer help and advice in preparing for a career in music. We can help fine tune your musicianship and hone your skills. Perhaps you are preparing for an audition and need some pointers and coaching with your pieces?

Production Courses

Production and Software Courses

We offer software courses, learning how to operate industry standard, digital audio workstations, such as Logic Pro X and Ableton Live and the notation software Sibelius. We have also recently launched a course in Sound Engineering, get in touch for more details.
